Awarded by a jury from the Ontario Council of Arts and OCFF, David is the 2004 winner of the Colleen Peterson Songwriting Award for his song, "A Mouse's Crumb". Although honoured by the award the news comes in a bittersweet package...

This song was written 2 weeks before Iraq was invaded.
Born out of anger, compassion and even fear - it's a simple
case of purging what everyone was thinking but couldn't fathom where it was going. The world is still astonished by the attack on Iraq. Saddam has been dethroned and that in itself is good news, yet we still question the ulterior motives behind this invasion.

A Mouse's Crumb
To take away a mouse’s crumb
You use your finger and your thumb
You close your eyes and then play dumb
Removed from guilt, you take the crumb.
Leave no specks or evidence
A trace of hope kept in suspense
Keep them shaking on the fence
Take the crumb, their last defense
Move the mighty ships of war
Missiles pointed at their door
Strip their wealth and keep them poor
Bring me your rich, for I need more.
While bombs burst in the mid-air
Mustn’t care what soul lay there
The poisoned trap is set to snare
These are the casualties we spare
To take away a mouse’s crumb
You use your finger and your thumb
You close your eyes and then play dumb
Removed from guilt, you take the crumb.
